1. How does float therapy work?

Tammy Wilkinson, Owner / Entrepreneur / Wellness Ambassador, Aqua Spa Float Center & Wellness Boutique: We like to say Float Therapy is one of the most relaxing things you can do. It’s 10-12 inches of skin temperature water (we keep it at about 93.5 F), fully saturated with about 1,500 pounds of Epsom Salt. That high salt content is more saturated than the Dead Sea, so your body is completely buoyant throughout your experience.

We are thrilled to have four Deluxe Quest Float Suites by Superior Float Tanks, as they allow our guests to spread out and enjoy a solo or couple’s float experience if they choose. We also offer a Revolution Float Orb for a solo float for those who are looking for a more womb-like experience. Plus, these suites come equipped with fiber-optic star lights and state-of-the-art sound systems. These tools can provide a gateway to full-on sensory deprivation if that is the overall goal.

Tim Strudwick, Director of i-sopod float tanks: Flotation therapy, also known as sensory deprivation or isolation tank therapy, is a therapeutic practice that involves floating in a specially designed tank filled with water and a high concentration of Epsom salt (magnesium sulphate). The tank is often called a float tank, float pod, isolation tank or sensory deprivation tank because it aims to provide an environment of minimal sensory input, allowing individuals to experience deep relaxation and various potential therapeutic benefits.

Tag Cedar, Spa Consultant & Industry Expert: In a flotation session, the client floats peacefully atop water with 1,000 pounds of mineralized salts in the flotation chamber/salt water tub/tank filled with 150-200 gallons of water. Because there is no sensory stimulation in the chamber and it is pure silence, the client enters a state of intense consciousness. The water is heated to the precise degree of skin temperature, so there are no nerve transmissions traveling from the skin to the brain. Therefore, the relaxation and outcome are profound.
