The Situation: “I have a client who comes in every two weeks for a manicure and she chews, chomps, and pops her gum loudly and obnoxiously,” explains Amy Murphy, owner of Amy Murphy’s Salon & Spa in Wharton, New Jersey. “I think it’s rude. How can I politely address this?”

The Solution: We asked Alice Koskas, owner of The Lounge Spa in Culver City, California, to answer this one for Amy. “I would offer her a complimentary elixir tonic or tea while she receives a manicure or waits for a treatment,” replies Koskas. “Hand her a tissue so she can throw away her gum and enjoy her drink.”
