Spa and beauty professionals came out in full force for the International Esthetics, Cosmetics & Spa Conference (IECSC), which was held in conjunction with the International Beauty Show (IBS) at the Las Vegas Convention Center on June 21-23.
Featuring more than 850 show floor exhibitors in total, the two shows drew packed crowds representing the skincare, wellness, hair care, nail care and makeup communities.
Major manufacturers taking part and showcasing their latest products included Pevonia, Éminence, Ilike Organic Skin Care, G.M. Collin, HydroPeptide, FarmHouse Fresh, Jane Iredale — The Skin Care Makeup, FIT Bodywrap and many more.
Education was a key component, with advanced education workshops on everything from Pinterest (“Get In with the Pin-Crowd”) to “Spa Business Bootcamp”; medical spa education covering such topics as “The Seven Habits of Highly Successful Medical Spa Marketers” and “Clinical Aromatherapy in the Modern Medical Spa”, as well as CIDESCO Section USA classes discussing business practices.
Also on the agenda were free spa business and wellness education classes, among them seminars entitled “Customer Loyalty: Tips and Tools to Help Spas Keep Their Customers Coming Back”, which, in light of the statistic that 20% of spa customers drive 80% of their revenue, explored the need to nurture relationships with existing clients by offering referral programs, acknowledging their loyalty, and taking an educational rather than “hard sell” approach. Further subjects included “Private Label Skincare: The Facts & Myths of This Smart Business Decision”, “Winning the Discount Wars” and “Global Spa Innovations and Trends”, given by DAYSPA contributing editor Lisa Starr.
As always, the IBS side of the conference pulsed with high energy, with live demos of hairstyling and makeup techniques co-mingling with competitions in nail work—including extraordinary examples of nail art—and Lash Wars, a competition in the exploding arena of eyelash services. In the latter category, NovaLash celebrated its tenth anniversary with a débutante-themed ball at the Aria hotel on the Saturday night.
The next IECSC event will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on November 9-10.
