Opened in December 2016 just north of Playa del Carmen on Riviera Maya, Andaz Mayakoba Resort adds panache to the pretty Caribbean coastline. Criss-crossed by nature trails, the chic property is surrounded by native mangroves and a lush jungle, within which stands Naum Spa. This 10,000-square-foot sanctuary is comprised of a fitness center, three outdoor pools, two hydrotherapy areas, and six simply decorated treatment cabins, all featuring showers fitted with oversized windows boasting tropical views.

Noteworthy

The spa thrives on its stellar service. Upon arrival, each guest is greeted with a refreshing horchata (traditional Mexican drink) and lavender-scented cold towel. A therapist then helps to establish the client’s treatment focus, wellness intention— Clarity (Tsoolik), Rest (He’lel), Strength (Muuk’) or Connection (Molcintah)—and ingredients of choice before selecting a ritual. “After the experience, our hotel executive chef prepares small local bites, which can be enjoyed on the treatment room deck,” explains spa manager Daniel Escalante.

Signature Services

As a nod to the spa’s namesake—Naum is the Mayan god of consciousness—its Naum Rituals are inspired by native Mayan traditions, reflective of the mind, body and spirit. Naum Ritual of Massage (from 75 min./$200) can be customized with either Swedish or deep tissue techniques, hot stones and bespoke aromatherapy blends. An interactive apothecary bar with Body Bliss scented oils enhances the personalized experience. Naum Ritual of the Face (from 75 min./$200), Naum Ritual of the Body (from 75 min./$200) and an anticipated Mayan 4 Hands Ritual Experience complete the spa’s signature offerings.
