With the rise of wellness travel, spas have become an integral part of the guest experience at hotels of all sizes. But how much revenue a spa generates depends on a multitude of factors, including the way it’s incorporated into each hotel’s overall business and marketing plan.

In its new “Spa Profitability Handbook,” released in January 2020, global hospitality consultant group Horwath HTL Health & Wellness outlines strategies for ensuring that spas can achieve their potential as tangible assets by improving revenue and controlling expenses. In order to achieve those goals, the report explores such factors as pricing treatments effectively and maintaining the optimum number of staff, as well as ways to attract hotel guests, boost retail sales, upsell add-on services, improve client retention and manage payroll.
