In celebration of National Yoga Month, the Terranea Resort held its annual Seaside Yoga event on Sunday, September 21.

On Sunday September 21st, more than 100 yogis and novices gathered on the Palos Verdes Meadows of the Terranea resort to participate in a seaside yoga session.

The annual event—which was free and open to the public—was held in conjunction with National Yoga Month, and also marked the upscale resort’s yearlong celebration of its fifth anniversary.

Beginning at 4:30 p.m., attendees perused a lululemon trunk show and TOMS stall, where local artists were available to hand-paint any shoes purchased that afternoon. We watched in wonder as a talented artist carefully crafted paw prints and the portrait of a small white dog on a pair of the brand’s slip-on classics.

In exchange for entering a raffle, participants received lululemon bags, complete with a resort magazine, bracelet and coupons. The raffle, drawn at the end of the event, sent several ecstatic women home with everything from a lululemon “outfit and fit” session to a two-night stay at Terranea, including a 60-minute treatment at its award-winning spa. Participants also got to sample homemade smoothies and granola bars from the spa’s café menu and grab free bottles of essentia water.

At 5:30 p.m. came the main attraction: open-air yoga. Two instructors from Terranea’s Fitness & Wellness Center took the stage to lead 30-minute portions of the hour-long session, while others weaved through the crowd, helping participants perfect their poses.

After being guided through everything from cyclical warrior stances and bends to balancing poses that included Garudasana (eagle pose) and Sahaja Purvottanasana (upward table pose), the session ended with a group meditation, with everyone turning to face the setting sun as an instructor chimed in with crystal singing bowls.

As part of a promotion surrounding the yoga event, attendees had the opportunity to purchase discounted day passes for The Spa at Terranea ($45), which gave access to all of the spa’s amenities, including pool and Jacuzzi.

For those who missed the weekend event but would still like to celebrate National Yoga Month with Terranea, the spa studio is offering complimentary yoga classes through the end of September. Classes for various skill levels take place on Mondays at 8 a.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 pm (reservations are required as space is limited). For more information, visit Terranea.com.
