Global Wellness Day Celebrated on Top of Mount Everest

Global Wellness Day is an entirely not-for-profit day dedicated to living well. All activities carried out under Global Wellness Day are free of charge and open to the public to help millions realize that “One day can change your whole life.” 86 GWD Ambassadors, 24 Key Supporters and 4 Advisors across the world are working to spread the movement. In 2018, GWD has been celebrated in more than 100 countries at 5000 different locations on June 9th. As the theme of this year’s celebration events has been the kids’ wellness, countries have added children and family related wellness activities to their celebration programs. GWD is also focusing on different social responsibility activities. Elderly houses in Holland, France and Tunisia have organized several activities. Brazil and Canada organized GWD events in hospitals and children hospitals. In 2016, 2017 and 2018 Chiva-Som International Health Resort took medical and education aid into the remote jungle communities of the Karen tribes No Man’s land living along the Thai and Myanmar border.

GWD has the support of the governments and the officials including the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, USA, Turkey, Ireland, Serbia, Costa Rica, Thailand, Colombia, Canada, Aruba, India, Nigeria, Brazil, Argentina, France and Mexico. GWD has the support of schools and institutions worldwide such as; CIDESCO Schools, Global Wellness Institute, International Spa Association (ISPA), South African Spa Association, Spa – A (Fédération des professionnels du bien-être) and S.P.A.S (Syndicat Professionnel des Activités de SPA), ATOUT France (France Tourism Development Agency).

The Overall Expedition was led by Mr Mingma Gelu Sherpa from Nepal, Managing Director of 7 Summits Club who himself has scaled Mt Everest 8 times and is also a Guinness Book of World Record Holder. The team of Climbers were including; World Record Holder Ms Lhakpa Sherpa climbed Mt Everest from the Tibet-China side and was led by Experienced Climber & Leader Mr Alex Abramov from Russia, President of 7 Summits Club.

Lhakpa Sherpa who lives in Connecticut, USA broke her own World record by climbing Mt Everest for the 9th time in 2018. Ms. Sherpa has taken the Global Wellness Day flag to the top of Mt Everest at 5.40 am on May 16th, 2018.

Global Wellness Day Ambassador of Nepal, Sanjay Lama has presented the Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of Global Wellness Day on June 6th, 2018 to Ms Lhakpa Sherpa for taking the GWD Flag to Everest.

Raising two daughters and working as a dishwasher at Whole Foods, Lhakpa Sherpa just doesn’t have time for training to climb Mount Everest. Even so, she has done it a record ninth times. The 44-year-old native of Nepal holds the world record for summits of Everest by a woman and is recognized by Guinness World Records for well known in mountaineering circles, but she spends most of the year living a modest life in Connecticut.
