June 10th marks the sixth annual Global Wellness Day (GWD), which was founded in 2012 by Belgin Aksoy Berkin. This year, some 4,000 locations in 90 countries, with the leadership of 85 ambassadors, 20 key supporters and three advisors, are working together to spread the notion that wellness is not just about healthy eating and exercise, but also kindness, mindfulness and gratitude.

Berkin established GWD as a way to start living a well life, and in 2017 she is adding one more important topic to the wellness conversation: How to raise happy kids. “One of the best things you can do for your child’s emotional well-being is to attend to yours,” she counsels. “Carve out time for rest, relaxation and love.” The leadership’s key goal is to see GWD become part of the United Nations’ official calendar.
