One on One: Danielle Munley, Cofounder, Sorella Apotherapy

Danielle-Munley-sorella[Image: Courtesy of Danielle Munley]How did Sorella Apothecary come to be?

Although I have a background in marketing and branding, I’ve always been a skincare addict. My sister-in-law (and Sorella cofounder) Emily Sindlinger is a spa owner and esthetician. Together, we were always on the hunt for the perfect products, and we were eventually inspired to make our own. We developed a results-driven skincare line with clean ingredients and beautiful packaging. We were meticulous when creating every detail, and it took more than five years to develop each product and its packaging. We called it Sorella Apothecary because ‘sorella’ means ‘sister’ in Italian.

What’s in the pipeline for the company?

Being that we are a newer company—SO MUCH! We have tons of ideas for Sorella. Aside from plenty of product launches, one of our original dreams has always been to build or partner with a charity that helps women and children. Hopefully, this isn’t too far down the road.

What’s the brand’s hero product?

This question comes with a different answer for each of our spa partners and consumers, but I’d have to say The Balm. It’s such a luxe moisturizer that’s packed with wonderful ingredients like beeswax, which adds this powerful hydration that even combination skin types benefit from because it doesn’t clog pores. It also delivers great antiaging benefits. I think people almost become addicted to how amazing their skin feels after using it.

How do you unwind?

Well, I have a two-year-old daughter and a baby boy on the way, so it’s a constant struggle! But my go-to way to relax is to get a facial or massage. I’ve also been trying to meditate daily for even just a few minutes before I get going.

If you weren’t in this industry what would you be doing?

Possibly event planning, or something in the field of birth—maybe a midwife.

How did you and Emily meet?

We met in kindergarten! Our houses were actually connected by our neighborhood park, and we went through elementary, middle and high school together. Then, after college Emily married my brother and officially became my sister!

What’s on your bucket list?

Right now I’m dying to do a European Christmas Market tour. I want to go to Germany, Switzerland & Austria—all in one trip

What makes your company unique?

We’re truly a family-run business and we’re trying to make something wonderful while adding positivity to our industry! We’re always trying to evolve and make our company better for our spa partners—our ears are open to their feedback.

Rapid Response

Personal mantra: Soak it up—these will be the good ol’ days.
Guilty pleasure: Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins, Eggs or Christmas Trees (get out of here with the cups—not as good!)
Favorite podcast: ‘Up and Vanished’
Pet peeve: Repetative noises & blatant ignorance. We live in the information age, and I’m a researcher. It’s so easy to become better informed!
Favorite food: Mexican
Scariest Thing You’ve ever done: Start a company? Haha! Maybe paragliding near the Matterhorn in Switzerland.
