Sticky Situation: Suggesting a Homecare Overhaul
How do you suggest a complete makeover of a client’s homecare regimen?
The Situation: As a spa owner, you know an esthetician’s job extends past the treatment room, and helping a client build good skincare habits at home is of utmost importance. Sometimes you discover that clients are using unproductive or ineffective products that are not beneficial to the skin. How do you tactfully suggest a new product lineup?
The Solution: “The best way to do that is to do an in-depth consultation and a product assessment of what they’re using right now,” says says Dori Soukup, CEO of consulting company InSPAration Management. “If it’s a regular client who has been coming in for a while, you can tell them, ‘We haven’t done this in a while, but next time let’s do a deep analysis of your skincare regimen. Bring in all the products you are currently using so we can figure out what is working and what isn’t. We’ll create a new program, or corrective treatments to get the skin to the healthy stage you deserve’.”
