Known in the spa industry for its annual Spa Resource Book, Universal Companies has now delivered The Spa Inspiration Book, a collection of protocols, savvy business solutions and treatment tips gathered throughout the years from educators, industry experts, Universal Companies staff and customers. The Spa Inspiration Book will be available in August 2014.

The Spa Inspiration Book is designed to work in concert with The Spa Resource Book, published in February. Dermalogica, one of the world’s top professional skin care brands that is committed to empowering women worldwide to become financially independent, celebrated women in business and entrepreneurship at the recent Dell Women’s Entrepreneur Network (DWEN) “Bold Beginnings, Brave Futures” conference held in Austin, TX. Jane Wurwand, the brand’s Chief Visionary and co-Founder, representing the thousands of women entrepreneurs within the skincare industry, spoke before an invitation-only group of more than 200 women entrepreneurs, all of whom spoke upon several topics including how to grow and scale businesses using the newest technologies and resources to produce both immediate results and long-term sustainable social change.
Since Dermalogica was founded in 1986, the brand has supported more than 100,000 professional skin therapists, many of whom have started their own businesses within the skin care industry. In 2011, Dermalogica continued its mission to support women’s financial independence through the launch of FITE “Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship” (www.joinFITE.org), which helps women to start or grow a business across all industries. Since its launch, FITE has helped more than 40,000 women worldwide.

Following the panel at DWEN, professional skin therapists representing top authorized Dermalogica retailers and skin centers in Austin offered guests signature Dermalogica services, including Face Mapping, at the “Relax and Recharge Reception” at the W Hotel. Activation-kiosks, provided by Dell, allowed attendees to instantly make microloans to the hundreds of eligible women entrepreneurs identified worldwide as part of FITE.
The DWEN conference also served as the venue at which Dell announced the findings of its second annual Gender-Global Entrepreneurship and Development Institute (GEDI) index, which examines opportunities for women entrepreneurs in 30 countries worldwide, and is the only metric index of its kind (for more information about the index, visit: http://dell.to/1pB38AG).
Dermalogica was one of the businesses featured in Dell’s award-winning “New Beginnings” television advertising campaign that first aired on January 1, 2014. The ad spotlighted entrepreneurial, “home-grown” businesses which began on a grassroots level.

Pivot Point International, Inc. and the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation, recently announced the formation of the Leo Passage Endowment Fund to benefit competition, scholarships and lifelong learning among students and professionals. The announcement was made during a press conference held during “Beauty Week,” at Cosmoprof North America in Las Vegas, NV.
The Leo Passage Endowment Fund, established by the Passage family, honors the founder of Pivot Point, industry leader for more than 50 years, who passed away in 2011. The Fund will be endowed with a $1,000,000 donation from the Passage family, and implemented through the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation.
“My father believed wholeheartedly in providing hair, beauty and wellness professionals a thorough and complete education in their craft, as well as how to be successful. Lifelong learning, and the value of competition among hairdressers were also pillars of his philosophy in developing Pivot Point,” said Robert Passage, Pivot Point Chairman and CEO. “It gives my mother, Lenie, and me, along with our entire family, immense pleasure that we are able to continue to support his beliefs through the establishment of the Leo Passage Endowment Fund.”
“Leo Passage truly lived his life to the fullest,” added Pivot Point President Melanie Kopeikin. “He motivated everyone who knew him to do the same. He encouraged everyone he met around the world to follow their hearts and their dreams. It is in this spirit of creativity that the Leo Passage Endowment Fund will be established to support the following three facets of a student’s or professional’s career: competition to help launch successful careers for those who follow their passion; scholarships to serve as an entry port for creative people to be part of this exciting profession; and lifelong learning to take careers to the next level. In addition to the establishment of the Leo Passage Endowment Fund, Robert Passage and Lynelle Lynch, president of the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation, announced that the 2015 Legacy Award event would be held in honor of Leo Passage, on Saturday, March 21, 2015 in Chicago, IL, during America’s Beauty Show. Leo Passage is the third recipient of the Legacy of Style award.
“Leo Passage was more than an esteemed icon – he was a true visionary,” said Ms. Lynch, following the announcements. “His generosity and passion for professional excellence, competitions and lifelong learning will live on, and provide opportunities for a new generation of hair, beauty and wellness visionaries. The Beauty Changes Lives Foundation is humbled, and honored to receive this Endowment Fund. We all look forward to honoring his memory even further at our Legacy Award event in Chicago next March.”
The Global Spa & Wellness Summit (GSWS) recently announced that its centerpiece research initiative will focus on three global industry sectors. The report will be released at GSWS's 2014 conference, to be held in Morocco.
SRI International, one of GSWS's longtime research partners, will conduct the "Global Spa and Wellness Economy" research, focusing specifically on the wellness industry as a whole, the spa industry, and the wellness tourism market. In addition, global and regional spa industry statistics - such as information on spa revenue, employment figures, economic impact, key spa industry genres, and the first-ever research on new sub-segments such as the global hot springs market - will be included in the study.
