Universal Companies Announces Wellness & Beauty Learning Center Grand Opening Events

The Torrance, California, center will provide classes and on-site training for wellness and beauty professionals.

Virginia-based spa distributor Universal Companies is planning the Grand Opening for a first-of-its-kind Wellness & Beauty Learning Center, located in Torrance. The Learning Center, which officially opened in October, provides classes and on-site training in the new 6,700 sq. ft. facility. Advanced continuing education and related events are offered for a broad range of wellness and beauty professionals, including spa and med-spa practitioners, estheticians, massage therapists, salon technicians, independent practitioners and solo-preneurs.

The new digital education hub will focus on research-driven content by clinicians, for clinicians.

Performance Health recently announced the Performance Health Academy, a content-rich resource that is built upon the foundation of the highly-respected TheraBand Academy. This new site supports Performance Health’s successful and continued brand growth with a greater variety of content targeted at a broader clinical audience.

The Performance Health Academy provides research, trends and articles targeted primarily to physical therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, athletic trainers and occupational therapists. Save the Date: The Face & Body Show is Coming to Chicago

The annual event for spa and wellness professionals will offer an array of advanced education, innovative products and networking opportunities.

Face & Body Midwest, the annual conference and expo for spa and wellness professionals, is coming to Chicago March 12-13, 2016. Lydia Sarfati Educates at ISSE Long Beach

The Repêchage founder and CEO led two classes during the 3-day beauty expo event.

“When it comes to skin care, education IS everything,” says Lydia Sarfati, Repêchage CEO and founder, who traveled across the country to take part in the education portion of this year’s ISSE Long Beach Show.

Serving as Honorary Chairman of CIDESCO USA, Sarfati hosted two classes on behalf of CIDESCO, “The World’s Major International Beauty Therapy Association.” Class attendees were able to join the industry icon as she shared her esthetic knowledge in anti-aging during her first class, “The Aging Skin – Professional and Scientific Solutions.” How environmental exposure, genetics, hormonal and chronological factors affect the skin, including the best natural ingredients for common anti-aging concerns, dark spots and collagen loss, were among the various topics covered during this two-hour class.

For her second class, “Facial Massage – Application and Mastery,” Sarfati discussed new approaches to mastering the art and science of classic facial massage movements including effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, friction, vibration and Eastern movements, such as shiatsu. Attendees worked directly with Sarfati to learn how to offer clients a sensational facial massage experience during the two-hour class demonstration and hands-on workshop.

In Memoriam: Spa Industry Leader Lori Hutchinson

Hutchinson was the founder and co-owner of California-based Hutchinson Consulting, and served as an ISPA board member from 2007 to 2010.

The International Spa Association has announced the sad news of its former board member, Lori Hutchinson's passing. “It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we share the news that former ISPA board member Lori Hutchinson has passed away,” said the International Spa Association via social media. “Lori’s energetic spirit was a bright light as she served on countless task forces throughout the years and made an impact on the spa community both personally and professionally. She will be missed immensely and our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.”

Hutchinson was the founder and co-owner of California-based Hutchinson Consulting, and served as a member of the board for the International Spa Association from 2007 to 2010. Fellow spa industry members, friends and family have taken to social media to share love, thoughts and well-wishes in recent days under the hashtag #lovetolori.

Hutchinson began her career at San Francisco’s Stanford Court Hotel in 1978, and in 1982 she opened Campton Place Hotel as director of human resources. She also worked for Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa before co-founding Hutchinson Consulting – which provides recruitment for hotels, resorts and spas – with her husband Bill in 1993. In addition to her role as ISPA board member, Hutchinson was the chair for the Global Wellness Institute’s Global Careership Initiative.

This week, The Beverly Hills Hotel launched a series of new yoga classes on the pool’s Upper Terrace*, to be held every Wednesday from 6 to 7pm. Celebrated yoga instructor Amy Rose will conduct the hour-long classes, priced at $25** and open to the public. Fresh fruit, juice, water, yoga mats and blocks will be provided complimentary to all participants.

Performance Health recently announced Nicole Bucar, TheraBand Associate Product Manager, as a member of The Massage Therapy Foundation’s Running for Research Team (TEAM MTF) participating in the 2016 Boston Marathon.
