Recently, the well known professional uniform brand Noel Asmar announced that it would be launching a new line of runway-inspired uniforms, as well as an all new candle collection. According to designer and CEO, Noel Asmar, the brand's mission is to "develop experiences that make life a little nicer," and both the new spa uniforms and the beautifully designed candle line are attempts to achieve this.
Noel Asmar is known for crafting professional uniforms that are "made for the way you move." Their most recent addition to their collection of high quality, stylish spa uniforms includes four new styles that "push the limits of the spa uniform with innovative fabrics, features and elegant design that elevate the spa experience for the service provider, and the spa itself, and those receiving the treatment." Among these stylish elements, the new line will feature exposed zippers, tuxedo-like silhouettes, bell sleeves, mixed media and new fabrics specifically designed for functionality. Furthermore, the four new styles employ the use of side panels to allow for stretch and breathability, as well as slits and pleats that allow a greater amount of mobility. These practical innovations, as well as the fact that the uniforms are all Antibacterial, odor resistant, hygienic, non-toxic, and fast-drying, coupled with the stylish aspects of the uniforms' new design, results in a line of spa uniforms that are top-of-the line in both fashion and function.
In addition to the new line of spa uniforms, Noel Asmar is launching a set of four, all new candles to further enhance the spa experience for professionals and clients alike. The collection, which features beautiful, minimalist design elements and elegant labeling for a sophisticated feel, will include four new candle scents, including Sugar Coated Lemon, Sandalwood Jasmine & Vanilla, Spiced Vanilla, and Tobacco Vanilla. According to Noel, these four scents are designed to induce relaxation and comfort, and invoke everything from fresh, clear thoughts, to "long, leisurely horse rides down a tree-lined path." Each candle burns for approximately 70 hours, and is made from a blend of soy wax with a 100% cotton wick.

Recently, world-renowned professional nail care company, OPI teamed up with celebrity partner and international superstar, Gwen Stefani in announcing seven all new, limited edition nail lacquers for 2014. The new line, "Gwen Stefani by OPI," will feature a host of standout color in breakthrough finishes. Highlights from the collection include a bold red lacquer that pays homage to Gwen’s signature lipstick of choice, a new semi-matte satin finish in shades of gold and black, and a mirrored chrome paired with its own special base coat.
Inspired by the 2013 Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala that featured the theme “Punk: Chaos to Couture,” OPI Executive VP and Artistic Director Suzi Weiss-Fischmann decided to create a collection of lacquers celebrating the role of music as a major influence in fashion. Weiss-Fischmann was drawn to Gwen Stefani's “expertise as a singer, songwriter and designer,” as well as the singer's ability to "use beauty to accessorize her style.”
Gwen’s signature red OPI hue, Over & Over A-Gwen, is available in a boxed set that also includes Swarovski black crystals and silver, gold and pewter studs in bar, square, diamond and circle shapes to help in creating unique nail designs. The set also come with nail glue for easy application. Two Stefani-inspired shades, "Love.Angel.Music.Baby." and "4 in the Morning," feature a new, semi-matte satin finish designed to be worn without top coat. "Push and Shove," a bold chrome hue, is also intended to be worn without top coat, but requires a special complimentary base coat called "Lay Down that Base." One thin coat of "Lay Down that Base" topped with two thin coats of "Push and Shove" yields an intense, mirrored finish. The collection is rounded out with two glossy crème lacquers and one sparkly glitter shade: "Hey Baby, I Sing in Color," and "In True Stefani Fashion."
With this new line, Weiss-Fischmann hopes to create “a collection as dramatic, diverse and glamorous as its namesake." Furthermore, she relates how, “with crème and glitter hues, new satin matte texture, a mirrored chrome and Swarovski Elements, Gwen Stefani by OPI presents the latest in pigments and finishes, while combining elements of haute couture and street fashion.”

CND and the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation (BCL) honored Tippi Hedren with the 2nd annual Legacy of Style Award at the BCL Legacy of Style Award Ceremony in Beverly Hills, CA on Monday, September 23rd. Ms. Hedren was selected as the recipient of this prestigious award for her commitment and numerous contributions to the professional nail industry. The Legacy of Style Award is presented to industry leaders, whose vision and commitment elevate the Beauty and Wellness industry. The first inaugural award was presented to Vidal Sassoon, post-mortem in 2012.
Tippi Hedren, accomplished actress, former model and humanitarian, is credited for pioneering the Vietnamese-American Nail Professional movement in the U.S. in the 1970’s. She has committed herself to the education and empowerment of women by helping them find work within the nail industry over the last three decades. Her contribution to this group of professionals has propelled the Vietnamese-American Nail Industry to new heights, which today accounts for 50% of the total U.S. industry. Vietnamese-Americans now dominate the multi-billion dollar nail salon business in North America.
“Helping young Vietnamese women empower themselves during what was a difficult time brought great joy to my life,” said Tippi Hedren. She added, “I am honored to accept this award and to lend my name to the BCL CND scholarship fund as I know it will bring new opportunities to many young women and men aspiring to join the nail profession.”
The Legacy of Style Award was presented to Tippi Hedren by Lynelle Lynch, President of Beauty Changes Lives; and Jan Arnold, Co-founder of CND.
“It is such a delight to honor Tippi Hedren’s life-long commitment to the education and empowerment of women in the nail community,” says Jan Arnold, Co-founder of CND. “Tippi has been, and continues to be, an inspiration to women around the world; her contributions to the nail profession will live long thanks to her namesake scholarship,” adds Arnold.
Kieu-Chinh, Vietnamese actress and philanthropist, and Tam Nguyen, President of Advance Beauty College, also took a moment to honor Tippi before she was presented with the award. Kieu-Chinh credits Tippi with saving her life and the lives of many Vietnamese refugees.
Jan Arnold also launched the BCL CND Tippi Hedren Nail Scholarship Fund, which will commence in 2014. The scholarship was created in partnership with BCL and CND to elevate, educate and expose the nail profession as a rich and rewarding career. CND, on behalf of the company and its Vietnamese partner distributors, presented a donation of $184,000 to Beauty Changes Lives, which will benefit individuals enrolling in nail programs at schools who are members of the American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS).

Aveda’s Global 24-Hour Hair Cut-A-Thon Sets a Guinness World Records® Title for the Most Money Raised for Charity through Haircuts in a 24-hour Period!
On what could be the best hair day ever, this past April 22 (Earth Day) Aveda raised US $220,000 to benefit clean water causes during its 24-hour global hair-cutting marathon. By surpassing $75,000 Aveda set a Guinness World Records title for the most money raised for charity through haircuts in a 24-hour period.
Aveda stylists from over 900 salons in 15 countries worldwide volunteered their time and expertise--snipping, trimming, chopping and shaping-- to create perfect haircuts in exchange for a client’s donation. The Global Cut-A-Thon kicked off in Asia, passed through Australia, made its way through Europe and concluded in North America. Participating countries included: The U.S., Canada, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Australia, Japan, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and UK.
The record-setting Global Cut-A-Thon was just one aspect of Aveda’s Earth Month campaign, the company’s annual month-long drive that raised US $4.6 million in 2012. This year Aveda’s global network of beauty professionals in 30 countries organized thousands of events and exceeded their monumental $5M goal, raising a cool US $5.5 million in April 2013 to benefit more than 40 clean water organizations worldwide.
A substantial part of that total (US $1.5 million) came from the sale of Aveda’s limited edition Light the Way™ Candles. The company donates 100 percent of the purchase price (based on its SRP $12) to Global Greengrants Fund, a non-profit organization that channels high-impact grants to grassroots groups working to solve pressing environmental problems. Local efforts by caring Aveda professionals raised the remaining US $4 million.
Aveda professionals in more than 30 countries have collectively raised more than $32 million since 1999 to help support organizations that directly effect environmental change. More than $26 million of this amount has been designated for clean water-related causes since 2007.
Aveda’s record-setting Earth Day 24 Hour Global Cut-A-Thon was a win-win, making both the world and the people who inhabit it far more beautiful.
