Decorating Tidbits

Let your day spa double as an art gallery. Jae Jampol, co-owner of BodyWise Holistic Spa and Lifetime Wellness Center (www.thebodywiseway.com), suggests "artcycling" as "a fun way to decorate." It also generates exposure for local artists. Periodically select new artists and rotate their work throughout your space. Plus, it gives clients something new to look forward to.

Is your building older than 1978? If so, don't scrape or sand off paint that might be lead-based. It may release dangerous lead particles into the air. Instead, heed the advice from the National Paint & Coatings Association (www.paint.org): Layer a primer directly on top of old paint to seal it, then use an eco-friendly one over the primer.

The EPA estimates that indoor air is 20 times more polluted than outdoor air, even in industrialized cities. For more stats and facts about indoor air quality and what you can do to improve it, sign up for a free e-book, Paint's Dirty Little Secrets, at www.healthylivingpaints.com.

maggieDAYSPA and NAILPRO, Creative Age Publications’ (CAP) flagship trade magazines for the beauty industry, recently were honored with prestigious “Maggie” Awards from the Western Publications Association (WPA).

DAYSPA, a publication for day spa owners and managers, was recognized as the best publication in the category of “Health & Fitness / Trade.”

NAILPRO, a publication for nail technicians and nail salon owners and managers, was recognized as the best publication in the category of “Beauty & Fashion / Trade.”

The Maggie Awards honor consumer and trade magazines, in print and electronic media, in a variety of trade sectors and categories.

This year’s competition received nearly 2,000 entries from more than 500 magazines, according to WPA. Representing magazine publishers and related companies for 57 years, the association serves publications west of the Mississippi River.

CAP reaches nearly a quarter-million beauty professionals worldwide in all segments of the beauty industry: full-service hair and nail salons, day spas, tanning salons, medical spas, resort and destination spas, open-line beauty stores, distributors and manufacturers' representatives.
