Where better than Las Vegas—the epitome of excess—to indulge in a “sauce-y” service? Take the Caramel & Bourbon Body Polish (25 min./$95), available at the Spa & Salon Vdara. Here, the two showcase ingredients combine in a lightweight yet intoxicating scrub that leaves the skin soft and prepped for the second and final step: a generous application of sweet almond oil, which is massaged into the skin. And because it’s completed in less than half an hour, guests can book it as a stand-alone treatment and get back to the Strip—stat!—or, to extend the experience, combine it with a longer massage. “The name says it all,” explains Shannon Mariani, the spa’s director of recreational services. “Brown sugar and real Kentucky whiskey come together in this rich scrub that doesn’t result in a greasy or oily feeling. Our clients love not just the smell but also how effective the treatment is—their skin is left soft, moisturized and smelling good enough to eat!”
With a nod to mulled cider (boozy or not), the Hot Cranberry/Orange Peel Ginger Cider Herbal Wrap & Massage (60 min./$175) offered by the spa at the Park Hyatt Washington in our nation’s capital is intoxicating in itself. Guests are wrapped in organic herbal tea-soaked linens infused with a heady mix of macerated dried cranberries, orange peel, sweet orange and ginger root essential oils, juniper berries, cinnamon bark and nutmeg. Next comes a full body massage with an aromatic lotion of aloe, chamomile, green tea, jojoba, shea and cocoa butters, and pomegranate molasses. “Warm, festive and detoxifying, it’s like a Christmas cocoon for clients,” enthuses Victor Bennett, COO of Suite Spa, which provides the hotel’s spa services. “Not only is the treatment downright good for you, with detoxifying and antioxidant ingredients, but the sensory experience is phenomenal. Nutmeg, ginger, orange peel, cranberries, cinnamon… it’s so evocative of this time of year. We can even perform it in the hotel rooms, so guests can go right off to sleep afterward.” Best of all? No hangover when they wake up!
The Buttered Rum Scrub (25 min./$89) at the Spa Resort Casino in Palm Springs is another liquor-based luxury. The treatment begins with an uplifting eucalyptus steam session, followed by a dip in a private tub filled with mineral-rich water from the natural underground hot springs below the spa. Next, a body scrub containing a delectable combo of sugar and buttered rum is used to buff away dry, dull skin. Natural glycolic acid properties and natural humectant components enhance the skin’s ability to retain moisture, but the real icing on the cake is the application of a decadent chocolate and coconut body butter. “This seasonal favorite is a must-do for clients during the holiday rush,” explains spa manager Daniel Spencer. “It’s not only moisturizing and rejuvenating, but its benefits extend through the entire season, leaving guests with a warm glow that they rave about into the New Year!” Talk about a spirit-ual awakening!
